Britt Uecker is passionate about growing good food and eating well. Britt turned a passion for gardening into B.S. in Horticulture at Michigan Statue University. She was employed by the MSU Children’s garden while attending college. Britt believes deeply that education is the key to getting communities excited about healthy food choices.

Before coming to the Kitchen, Britt worked with Calvin Lutz Farms in Kaleva for five years. Here, she was given the opportunity to develop, manage, grow, and market a 10-acre vegetable garden. She facilitated the distribution of produce to local restaurants, grocery stores, farmers markets, and farm-to-school programs. For Britt, the reconnection of people to their source of food is of the utmost importance.

At the Kitchen, Britt is responsible for teaching gardening, canning and freezing classes in conjunction with Manistee’s network of Community Gardens.  In addition, Britt serves as the manager for the Manistee Farmer’s Market.  When she’s not in the garden, Britt and her daughter Lauren enjoy the abundant and natural beauty that is Manistee County. They spend time hiking, camping, biking, swimming, cooking and eating local seasonal foods, and attending musical events.
