Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market

The Manistee Community Kitchen is currently planning the upcoming 2014 Manistee Community Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market.  We have some exciting new additions and changes to this year’s market.  We aim to make this weekly event as family-oriented, festive, and fun as possible.

The market is now solely run by The Manistee Community Kitchen.  We are adding local Artisans to the mix for added interest and the opportunity for local individuals to share their talents and gifts to our community.  It is a juried market, where diverse quality goods will be voted upon.  The application process is still open.

We have many new additions to this year’s market such as fresh meats, fish, farm-fresh eggs, artisan breads and pastries, cheeses, jellies, jams, and sauces.  Other additions are fresh smoothies, lemonade, hot coffee and tea.  We will also be able to sample and purchase wine at this year’s market.  We will be featuring a local restaurant each week where they will have a fresh, in-season entrée for purchase, that can be eaten at the market or taken home.  We will also be featuring the talents of a local chef weekly, who will be sharing their knowledge of healthy recipes for you to try yourself at home.  And lastly, a Kid’s Korner for our youngsters to color a farm scene, plant seeds, or craft an art project.  Live music will continue to entertain us, setting the mood for an enjoyable home-town experience, brought to you by our Downtown Development Association.  The market will continue to have the wonderful cornucopia of fresh produce, honey, maple syrup, artisan chocolates, flowers, and plants.

The goals of this year’s Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market is to bring our community together in a healthy, happy, and positive place.  We want to support our local farmers, our local artisans, and our local businesses and to foster their direct relationships.  Our mission is to bring a consciousness to the way in which we all live by promoting healthy eating and providing fresh, wholesome food and education by means of demonstrations and the sharing of knowledge.  We also want to encourage and support our farmers and entrepreneurs to plant the seeds of a truly sustainable local economy where nature, people, and animals are respected.

The location of the Manistee Community Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market will remain in the same location as last year, which is on Memorial Drive across from the Dial-A-Ride building.  The market will open on Saturday, May 24th and close on Saturday, October 25th for the season.  The new market hours are 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for your convenience.  For regular updates, please check back often and also “Like” us on Facebook.  Please remember to…Eat Fresh and Buy Local.  See you at “the Market”!
